You can put a parental guide around their social media activities so that they are not unnecessarily exposed to unsafe products on social media, just as Jochebed set a watchful guide over Moses as he lay innocently by the riverside.

As a parent, you have a supervisory role to play over the destiny of your child, and as a supervisor, you will have to be watchful. Jochebed did not just drop her son by the riverside; she put a structure in place for his supervision. Likewise, you have to be deliberate in putting a structure in place that monitors and supervises your child’s activities even when you are not proximal to them. 

Children do better with guidance, and one of the major tool needed for guidance is instruction. When you hold back instruction from your children, they find the decision making process difficult and are more likely to act based on their impulses and the dictates of their social influences rather than following critical thinking.

Teachers are intentional people; they structure out the exact knowledge they want to pass across, systematically pass the same, and patiently repeat the process when need be until a lesson is learned. Jochebed must have been intentional for Moses to learn about his identity within the short period he has to be held in her hands.

Despite the short time that Moses spent with his mother, it was clear to him that he was an Israelite and developed a great hatred for the task masters of his real people.

When you can be the first to teach your child what he or she should know, our text today says it will be difficult for such a child to depart from it, and this was seen in the relationship of Jochebed and Moses, despite the fact that Moses only lived with her for a few times, yet she learnt a lot to the extent that he could literally identify with the suffering of his real people

Monitoring is a systematic process of observing and reviewing the progress or quality of a task’s performance over a period of time. Parenting is an area of discipline that requires consistent monitoring. Hence, a parent needs to be observant and faithful to pay close attention to changes in his or her child.

Jochebed (the mother of biblical Moses) was a strategic mother. She understands time and seasons and knows how to take advantage of opportunities. She is a mother who has an end in sight. Through inspiration, she crafted a concise basket that will not sink her child but sail him into the fulfillment of his life purpose.
