It was said yesterday that Jochebed (the mother of Biblical Moses) was a highly realistic parent; she knew the point at which she could not hide Moses, her son, any longer and had to employ another method that eventually yielded God’s mind for her and the child. If Jochebed was rigid and not realistic, she could have endangered her life and that of her other children, even with Moses’s life, but thank God that she was highly sensitive and realistic.
It is important to know your limits as a parent and know when to seek help promptly as needed; that is part of being realistic.
Does your child need to attend a special school? Be in touch with reality to make that decision promptly.
Do you suspect a medical or psychological challenge with your child? Do not hesitate to seek appropriate help, and that also applies to paying attention to yourself and seeking help when you need it; asking for help is about simplicity and not vulnerability.
