INDICATIONS OF COMMITMENT IN A MARITAL RELATIONSHIP (EXTRACT FROM JULY’S TEACHINGS)

Your past record, realities, background experiences and future aspirations should be laid bare to anyone you intend to marry. If he or she can’t cope with the truth, just let go.

There should not be too much disparity between your level of education and exposure compared to that of your spouse or your intending spouse, so as to prevent emotional abuse and domestic violence in your marital relationship.

According to Jesus, the second greatest commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. As much as this commandment is easy to relate to, it might be difficult to obey if there is no self-love. This is so because no one can give what he or she does not have; one can only love spouses, children, friends, relatives, and neighbors to the extent one loves himself or herself.

The relationship that a person has with himself or herself becomes the pre-requisite or basis for building successful interpersonal relationship skills. Consequently, the process of having a healthy relationship with oneself begins with whether a person has a healthy self-perception of himself or not.

Avoid the factors that hinder effective listening.
